1979 FORD FALCON XD for sale
Price: POA
While the 1970s are remembered as an amazing decade for Ford Australia with so many of their true iconic muscle cars been built during this time, we can honestly say that the Moonraker doesnt deserve to be considered in this group of stunning cars based on its very individual styling and looks, BUT it is a genuine 1 of 1 car built inhouse at Ford Australia by their design team and one of only a few that ever made it into the public.
The Moonraker as it was named after the famous movie of the time was designed and built in the Ford Australia Design Centre by Herb Grasse and the entire design team to be used as a promotional vehicle for the James Bond movie of the same name screening in Australia at the time and to help showcase the newly arrived XD series in the Ford showrooms in 1979. After completing the car show circuit the Moonraker was eventually given away on the Don Lane show in 1979 and was won by a family in Northern Melbourne.
The Moonraker is based on a factory 351 Automatic XD Fairmont Ghia and it is still retaining all of its original matching numbers running gear and is showing 180,000 original Klms.
Many many modifications were completed by the design team both externally and internally in the build of this custom 1 off including:
Custom manufactured grey velour trim with black diagonal stripes
Rear head rests
Custom door trims
Skytop moonroof (which needs repair but spare provided)
Custom rear console including TV making the Moonraker a 2+2
Dash Mounted and fully functioning on board computer
Custom paint and stripes
Custom Grill
Custom sill panel covers
Guard Flutes
Rear spoiler (no longer fitted as it was not made to last outdoors!)
White painted LTD wheels
While she is definitely an acquired taste, she is a genuine piece of Australian motor vehicle history and is totally unrestored and original.
